Pipeline Ruptures, Bursts in Texas Town
October 18, 2007
A pipeline explosion and fire rocked an area of Port Arthur, Texas, prompting officials to tell residents to stay indoors until the all-clear signal is given.
No injuries were reported in the early morning ethylene pipeline rupture, explosion and fire that shook homes in the city’s Stonegate neighborhood, Beaumont television station KFDM reported.
The rupture and explosion occurred in a Union Carbide-Dow Chemical pipeline. The company cut the flow of ethylene to the pipeline and it could take several hours for the product to burn off, officials said.
