Singapore’s Changi Airport wins special award
SINGAPORE, Oct. 9 (Xinhua) — Singapore’s Changi Airport won a special award on Tuesday for being named the Best Airport in the world for the past 20 consecutive years.
The “Twenty Years at the Top, Best Airport in the World” award was presented by the UK’s Business Traveler magazine to the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) at the Changi Airport, according to a statement by the CAAS.
Director-general and chief executive officer of the CAAS Lim Kim Choon said at the ceremony, “Winning an award is an achievement, and keeping our reign on the best airport title for 20 consecutive years is even more commendable. Nevertheless, it isalso an ongoing challenge”.
This is the first-of-its kind award presented to any organization since the Business Traveler award was introduced in the early 1980s, recognized throughout the industry as the premieraccolade for business travel, the statement said.
To commemorate Changi’s achievements, a two-month exhibition showcasing the awards won by Changi will be held at the airport.
Currently, the well-known Changi Airport is served by 79 airlines via 4,180 weekly scheduled flights to 185 cities in 59 countries.
