VIDEO from Chevrolet and Synaptic Digital: The Rise of the Dad Mobile!
NEW YORK, Sept. 20, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — As the back-to-school battle gets into full swing, parents across the country are arming their cars with school books, sport equipment and dance gear. But today’s carpool wars are not just the domain of the soccer mom and the minivan. A new survey – commissioned by Chevrolet of more than 470 dads across America – found that 80 percent of fathers take an active role in daily family life, with 73 percent driving their kids to school, daycare and extracurricular activities.

In the evolution of carpooling, not only have the drivers changed, so have their vehicles, says the study. While moms may still prefer minivans for their swivel seats and sliding doors, dads opted for a more masculine family hauler. In fact, more than half looked to utility vehicles such as an SUV or crossover as their battle vehicle of choice. The survey also showed that fathers only gave their current family vehicles a 6.4 “cool” rating on a 10-point scale.
