Heavy Metal Jet Team and Naval Aviation Centennial Headline 14th Annual Great Georgia Airshow
PEACHTREE CITY, Ga., Oct. 6, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — It’s a weekend filled with breathtaking feats, the roar of engines and a hushed crowd anticipating the next high speed pass. The 2011 Great Georgia Airshow returns to the skies over Peachtree City October 8-9, 2011.
Air Show Director Angie Faulise described a new high-powered line-up which will feature some of the world’s top aerobatic pilots. “We are extremely excited that the Heavy Metal Jet Team will join us for the 2011 Air Show,” says Faulise.
The 2011 Great Georgia Airshow marks the first time in ten years that the festival has hosted a jet team. “The Heavy Metal Jet Team features retired military jet pilots in a five-ship aerobatic civilian owned jet team,” says Faulise. “This team is the first of its kind and has been extremely popular wherever it has performed.”
Also highlighting this year’s air show is a celebration of the Centennial of Naval Aviation. Established in 1911, Naval Aviation has served a pivotal role in America’s history over the last 100 years. A U.S. Navy Legacy Flight will combine a modern F/A-18 Hornet and World War II-era F4U Corsair in a stirring tribute to America’s veterans.
Selected as a Top 20 Event in 2009 by the Southeastern Tourism Society, the Great Georgia Airshow is known for its dynamic displays, as well as numerous activities for families and fun-seekers of all ages
The 2011 show includes military aircraft demonstration teams, electrifying aerobatics, precision sky diving, a thundering jet truck and a host of vintage aircraft. Kids Port play ground, Military History Timeline encampment and vendors will be on hand throughout the weekend. For the young at heart, rides in the Dixie Wing’s growing fleet of vintage aircraft are available for purchase. Other additions include family-friendly VIP seating underneath a tent and close-up parking.
