WASHINGTON, Nov. 8, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — Four Tulsa-area businesses will receive a combined 24-hours of one-on-one green coaching for their outstanding participation in the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC) Foundation’s national Green Builds Business Program.
Green Builds Business is a two-day training program, underwritten by Walmart, which teaches business owners how to incorporate green sustainable efforts into their overall business plans. They are also coached on best practices for lowering operating costs, increasing revenues and motivating workers with green initiatives. The training in Tulsa was co-hosted by the Greater Tulsa Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (GTHCC).
“The participants demonstrated a true commitment to pioneering green initiatives in Tulsa,” says Javier Palomarez, USHCC President and CEO. “I am confident that with the tools and resources they have gathered through the Green Builds Business training program, these business owners will help lead Tulsa, and the Hispanic business community, toward a more sustainable workforce.”
The winners from the 2011 Green Builds Business program in Tulsa include:
- Emiliano Gutierrez of Tias Tamales.
- Vicente Ruiz of VR Electric who has a goal to become a high efficiency lighting and electrical contractor.
- Katia Anaya of Panaderia Pancho Anaya who aims to create a green marketing plan that will help expand both her supplier base and clientele.
- Corey Wren Williams of Sustainable Tulsa who is working to create a survey of Tulsa’s business leaders to identify what sustainable action items they would support, as well as create an advisory board to help support and implement those sustainable action items.
“We have outstanding Hispanic business owners in our community who are ready to make a difference, but before this type of programming became available, many of them did not have the training or resources necessary to effectively implement green initiatives into their business models,” says Francisco Trevino, President of the GTHCC. “We are proud of these participants for taking part in program and leading the way toward a more sustainable Tulsa.”
The four selected business owns will receive a combined 24 hours of one-on-one green coaching with Bill Roth, Green Business Coach for Entrepreneur.com and Founder of Earth 2017. Roth will help the winners formulate a green business plan or implement a green project that holds the potential of creating jobs, growing profits and reducing emissions this year.
