SGS Adds ENERGY STAR Testing & Certification Services in Atlanta
FAIRFIELD, N.J., Dec. 13, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — SGS Consumer Testing Services today announced the addition of ENERGY STARÃ‚® energy efficiency testing and certification services at its new electrical and electronics (E&E) laboratory in Atlanta. The facility has received EPA recognition to test, verify and report products in 10 categories – including audio/video, battery charging systems, computers, displays, imaging equipment, servers, set top boxes, telephony, televisions and water coolers – for their eligibility to carry the ENERGY STAR label.
SGS’s Atlanta lab joins the SGS labs in Taiwan and China providing EPA-recognized ENERGY STAR services.
As an EPA-recognized testing service, SGS is authorized to measure the energy efficiency of products seeking ENERGY STAR qualification based on EPA specifications and test methods. As an EPA-recognized certification body, SGS is empowered to certify a product’s ENERGY STAR eligibility and submit the relevant documentation to the EPA on behalf of the manufacturer or another EPA-recognized testing lab that lacks certification privileges.
Benefits of using the new SGS facility in Atlanta for ENERGY STAR testing and certification include the ability to:
- Receive all ENERGY STAR services from a single laboratory, eliminating the effort and delays associated with sourcing testing and certification from different providers.
- Use the same lab for other E&E services including product safety, performance and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) testing and certification, saving time as well as simplifying the process by working with a single point of contact.
- Submit fewer samples for testing when sourcing multiple services from SGS.

ENERGY STAR is a joint program of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy designed to help save money and protect the environment through energy-efficient products and practices.
