Scott Tucker and Level 5 Motorsports Put Young Driver’s Dreams on Track
MADISON, Wis., Dec. 23, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — Race fans may be hearing the name Mason Daughters in the near future. The young racer is making a name for himself with the help of Scott Tucker and his Level 5 Motorsports driver development initiative.
With support from Level 5, Daughters, 13, from Polo, Missouri, recently completed a solid season in the go-kart ranks by finishing 17th among 60 competitors in the TaG Junior main event at the prestigious 14th annual Superkarts USA Super Nationals in Las Vegas. The event, held on the temporary circuit in the parking lot of the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino, is the largest karting event in the world.
Daughters scored a fourth-place finish in the first heat in his class, and then finished 19th in the second heat when he clipped another kart that spun on the first lap. He dropped to 26th and bent his axle.
In the third heat, Daughters was running 10th when he made some contact and fell to 19th, but came back to finish 12th. In the final, he started 17th and moved up to 10th by the fifth lap. He was pushed wide and fell back to 18th and finished 17th overall.
“Mason has only been competing at this level since 2010, so to be invited to such a prestigious event and to finish 17th out of 60, that’s pretty stout,” said Tucker, who, himself, won a championship in the LMP2 class in the American Le Mans Series in this year. “He has really come a long way in a short time, and he continues to improve. Mason has proven he is a winner.”
Daughters has impressed Tucker, the Level 5 Motorsports team owner, throughout the season. Daughters is one of five youth racers that have been sponsored by Level 5 Motorsports, including his younger brother, Garrett.
Mason Daughters scored the Liberty Cup championship in the TaG Jr. class of the Kansas City Karting Association earlier this season at his home track in Liberty, Missouri, winning all four of his events in one weekend. He holds the all-time track record for the fastest lap at that facility.
Daughters also came within 100 points of winning the Heartland Sprint Series championship in Kansas City in his rookie season.
“I am still in shock and disbelief about this whole season. I am the luckiest kid in the world to have Scott Tucker as a mentor and Level 5 Motorsports as a sponsor,” Daughters said. “One day, I’m going to repay Scott and the team. I might even get to race alongside Scott and win races for him. That would be a dream come true.”
