Panther Expedited Services, Inc. Exceeds Goal to Raise $40,000 for Toys for Tots Charity

January 10, 2012

SEVILLE, Ohio, Jan. 10, 2012 /PRNewswire/ — Every company has holiday traditions such as parties, Secret Santa, or gift exchanges. But at Panther, their holiday tradition has a lot more meaning. For the third year in a row, Panther held its annual “Drive to Fill the Truck” campaign, a partnership with The Toys for Tots Foundation (toysfortots.org) to bring toys to local children in need.

This year Panther raised over $40,000, an increase of $15,000 over 2010 for this notable charity. “This has quickly become a proud tradition at our Company,” said Panther’s President and Chief Executive Officer Andrew Clarke. “Our employees receive great satisfaction in knowing that they played a small role in brightening up a child’s life.”

The US Marine Corps Reserve started the Toys for Tots Foundation in 1947 to collect unwrapped toys for local communities. Since then, the organization has expanded to all 50 states, and more than 400 million toys have been donated. In addition to raising money, Panther’s corporate office in Seville was a toy drop-off center for Northeast, Ohio.

Panther created the “Drive to Fill the Truck” in 2009, when Andy and Chief Information Officer Ed Wadel drove a Sprinter Cargo Van for a week, donating the profits from each load to Toys for Tots. In 2010, Andy wanted to up the stakes and operate a larger, 22-foot Straight Truck. He secured his Commercial Driver’s License and partnered with Lyn Brumfield, an owner-operator that has been with Panther since 2001.

In 2011, Andy and Lyn teamed up once again, kicking off their “Expedited Adventure” on November 29th, 2011. As in past years, Andy kept Panther employees, contractors, and customers updated through the use of social media such as Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn. He also uploaded video updates throughout the course of the week, and viewers could track his progress on an interactive map on the company’s website.

In addition to the “Drive to Fill the Truck” campaign, Panther held their annual Holiday Event at their headquarters in Seville, OH. Employees and community members alike brought toys to donate, and took part in festivities such as face painting crafts, and pictures with Santa.
