Davitt Design Build Navigates the Rough Seas of Coastal Regulations

January 18, 2012

WEST KINGSTON, R.I., Jan. 18, 2012 /PRNewswire/ — When Mary Sullivan, a homeowner with a needy property in a desirable coastal location, saw the work of Davitt Design Build, only one thing crossed her mind: “That’s the kind of company I want to rebuild our home.”

And rebuild they did. Davitt turned Sullivan’s modest “fishing shack” on the verge of demolition into their waterfront dream home. “We’re just so happy with the work,” she says, with excitement. “We built our retirement home a decade early!”

Turns out that many people talk with excitement about the work of Davitt Design Build. The award-winning builder/renovator has been wowing clients for three decades, with a particular metier for navigating the rough seas involved in the zoning and permitting of coastal/seaside/waterfront properties.

“We had seen Davitt’s work on other waterfront homes,” says Barry Morris, another satisfied client, whose petite, 1950′s oceanfront cottage was transformed into a stunning two-story home. “There was no doubt they were meticulous and talented. We just had no idea that anyone could do this kind of work, especially overcoming the zoning obstacles. The end result was more than we’d ever hoped for.”

The work of Davitt Design Build, especially on complicated coastal construction projects, comes with an assurance: that the firm will tend to the imposing regulations presented by Coastal Resources and DEM-type bureaus. Too often these regulations feel like roadblocks and dim the enthusiasm of homeowners. “Before we contacted Davitt, contractors told us it would take two years to get all the licensing and permits,” says Sullivan. “Then they’d say, ‘Give us all a call when you’re ready to go.’ That didn’t sit right with us.”

With its unique expertise, Davitt Design Build helped Sullivan attain all the necessary paperwork in two months, not two years. “The house went up in nine months and we never had a single problem.”

Matt Davitt, owner of the company, is modest about his work and his accomplishments. “We have a unique team approach to every project,” he says. “Each one we take on is integrated, with our architect, our builder, and the homeowner all having input. And we become the principal contact for the homeowner with coastal regulators to make sure our designs and our clients’ goals are realized to everyone’s satisfaction.”

The Sullivan and Morris projects were perfect examples. “Davitt’s level of involvement and understanding of how to complete the process, and negotiate on our behalf,” adds Morris, “was really unexpected and very impressive.”

Since 1982, Davitt Design Build has crafted gorgeous homes and renovations, including many homes on waterfront property. In 2011, the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI) selected Davitt Design Build as its Regional Contractor of the Year (CotY). The coveted award is the industry’s highest praise. NARI represents more than 8,200 member companies nationwide, comprised of 63,000 remodeling contractors.
