RES Americas Announces Completion of Crossroads Wind Farm
BROOMFIELD, Colo., Feb. 21, 2012 /PRNewswire/ — Renewable Energy Systems Americas Inc. (RES Americas) is pleased to announce the completion of Crossroads Wind Farm. Located in Dewey County, Oklahoma, the 227.5 megawatt (MW) project consists of 95 Siemens 2.3 MW turbines and three Siemens 3.0 MW direct-drive turbines, the first of their kind in the United States. Substantial completion was reached at the end of 2011.
“RES Americas is pleased to be a part of Oklahoma’s ‘Wind Power Revolution’,” said Chris Hills, VP Construction for RES Americas. “Oklahoma has proven to be a leader in wind energy generation. We look forward to bringing more clean, renewable energy to the citizens of Oklahoma, and to working on future projects in the state.”
RES Americas invested millions during the development and construction phases of the Crossroads Wind Farm, resulting in many benefits to the state and local community. During the 12 month construction period the project had an average of 150 people working on site each day, for a total of 650 temporary construction jobs, and the project also created 10 permanent jobs. The Crossroads Wind Farm will produce enough electricity to power approximately 70,000 average homes and will offset about 400,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide per year.
“With the completion of Crossroads, OG&E can meet approximately 10 percent of our customers’ energy needs with wind generation,” said Jesse Langston, Vice President of Retail Energy for Oklahoma Gas & Electric. “We appreciate the support RES Americas provided to help us achieve this milestone.
The Crossroads Wind Farm marks the first wind project RES Americas has developed in Oklahoma. The company also served as the Balance of Plant (BOP) contractor, maintaining construction rights when it sold the project to OG&E in August 2010.
