ThermoEnergy is Highlighted in Seeking Alpha Investment News Report

In the article, Moore noted that growth in the clean energy sector has been harmed due to relatively low prices for traditional sources of energy, such as coal, and by a reduction in government subsidies for alternative energy.
Moore also cited increasing government regulation and fines as strong incentives for cleaning up municipal wastewater, which create an additional opportunity for cleantech companies such as ThermoEnergy.
ThermoEnergy holds a $27 million contract with the City of New York for the installation of its proprietary ARP (Ammonia Recovery Process) which prevents nitrogen, in the form of ammonia, from being discharged into waterways by wastewater treatment plants. The company also intends to ship a pilot ARP system to a major Chinese municipality for review.
Moore noted that nonrenewable sources, such as coal, remain cheap and abundant. However, coal, oil, and natural gas all have environmental impacts and are seen as harmful to health by their own customers, Moore said.
ThermoEnergy is a company that is positioned to profit from the fact that abundant coal will be a cornerstone of energy production for the forseeable future. “First there was coal; then there were scrubbers,” says Cary Bullock, ThermoEnergy CEO. “We’re in the next wave of coal power.” Moore noted that instead of developing and introducing technology solutions that fundamentally shift energy production to new sources of power, ThermoEnergy enables traditional sources, such as coal, to be cleaner.
Coal releases sulfur when it is burned, which can cause acid rain, Moore pointed out, and coal is cited as the largest contributor to carbon dioxide, which is a greenhouse gas. Clean technologies such as ThermoEnergy’s mitigate these adverse effects.
Since the first clean coal plant in the world was launched in 2008, Moore noted that the concept has spread. ThermoEnergy eliminates the smoke stack, Moore said, while enabling a coal-fired power plant to achieve nearly zero emissions.
In the clean water sector, Moore noted that expensive environmental fines led New York City to sign a multimillion-dollar agreement with ThermoEnergy to install its ammonia recovery system for a wastewater treatment plant.
In addition, Bullock noted that pollutants can be sold. Ammonia, for example, is a key ingredient for fertilizer, providing ThermoEnergy with an additional revenue source. ThermoEnergy is at the nexus of huge markets for energy, water, and fertilizer, all while removing harmful pollutants from the air and water, Moore noted.
