WRD Hosts 5th Annual Groundwater Festival

Rain or Shine the Water Replenishment District of Southern California (WRD) will host its 5th Annual Groundwater Festival “Treasure Beneath Our Feet,” a free public event that attracts over 3,000 participants. WRD together with its Festival partners invites the public to this fun, interactive, educational event featuring over 40 exhibitors including Water Agencies, Federal, State and local non-profit agencies, the Aquarium of the Pacific, Cabrillo Marine Aquarium, the ECO Landscape Design Mobile Unit, and many more.

The Groundwater Festival “Treasure Beneath Our Feet” coincides with National Groundwater Awareness Week, which runs from March 11th to the 17th, recognizing the importance of groundwater as a valuable and renewable resource across the nation. Locally, groundwater supplies 40 percent of the water used within the WRD service area which is home to 10 percent of the State’s population.

During the event, the WRD Board of Directors will present the WRD Groundwater Ambassador Awards to the following advocates of groundwater protection for their contributions to water conservation and water issues in the region; ABC7, Rob Beste – City of Torrance, Adriana Figueroa – City of Norwalk, Jim Glancy – City of Lakewood, Christina Dixon – City of Huntington Park, Jean-Marie Bruno – Park Water, Kevin Wattier – Long Beach Water Department, Tom Coleman – Orchard Dale Water District, and Paul Rowley – Golden State Water Company.

The WRD Groundwater Festival “Treasure Beneath Our Feet” is made possible through partnerships with Golden State Water Company, the Metropolitan Water District, Sanitation Districts of Los Angeles County, and many more.

The Water Replenishment District of Southern California is the regional groundwater management agency that protects and preserves the quantity and quality of groundwater for two of the most utilized urban basins in the State of California.
