Tom Benson Chevy Proud To Announce GM Named Green Leader
SAN ANTONIO, March 19, 2012 /PRNewswire-iReach/ — Tom Benson Chevy, a Chevy dealer in San Antonio, TX, is excited to announce that General Motors was recently named a Michigan Green Leader courtesy of the Detroit Free Press. The Detroit Free Press commended GM for expanding their landfill-free program last year
Digging a little bit deeper, General Motors added a total of eight manufacturing and nine non-manufacturing facilities to their ‘landfill-free’ list in 2011 alone. These facilities will be set to reuse, recycle, and/or convert the waste that is created to usable energy.
John Bradburn, General Motor’s Manager of Waste-Reduction, stated that there is a silver lining in their efforts, saying that, “This program helps us reduce our footprint while creating environmental awareness among employees and communities. It’s also good for our bottom line as we further optimize waste streams for efficiency and generate revenue from our byproducts.” So not only is this initiative helping planet Earth, it’s also helping GM’s bottom line.
This award is a great honor for General Motors but that won’t stop GM from continuing to raise the bar. GM recently committed to reaching 100 landfill-free manufacturing sites and 25 non-manufacturing sites by the end of 2020. So far, they’re already ahead of schedule as they already have 81 landfill-free manufacturing sites and 16 non-manufacturing sites.
