What Do March Madness and Competitive Energy Markets Have in Common? Cheering Fans!

HARRISBURG, Pa., March 22, 2012 /PRNewswire/ — Consumers in the ‘Sweet Sixteen’ of States and Washington, D.C. have teams of suppliers competing for their electric and natural gas business. As consumers across the United States cheer on their favorite college basketball teams and enjoy the annual March Madness of the NCAA Tournament, millions of consumers cheer on competitive electric and natural gas suppliers offering lower cost options, innovative product offerings, and unique affinity programs.

In Pennsylvania, more than 1.6 million consumers are exercising their right to shop around for the best deal to meet their electric and gas needs in 2012. In Illinois, hundreds of thousands of residential consumers are taking service from a competitive supplier, and even more are expected to reap the benefits of the competitive market as many municipalities enact government aggregation programs for competitive electric service. In Michigan, California and Long Island, New York, businesses that do not have access to competitive electric supply are asking for greater access and more competition.

“In many states, interested customers can simply visit their local public utility commission website to find competitive offers in their utility service area, compare products, prices and terms, and request to switch to the supplier and product of their choosing,” says Fein. “It’s all about being able to take control of your energy needs and selecting a supplier of your choosing. As more consumers enjoy the benefits of competition, and as the markets continue to develop, suppliers will create a greater variety of products and services. We encourage all consumers, especially residential and small commercial consumers, to explore their competitive electric and natural gas options.”
