FirstEnergy Solutions Makes the Cleveland Cavaliers Game Green
AKRON, Ohio, April 10, 2012 /PRNewswire/ — As part of NBA Green Week 2012, FirstEnergy Solutions has donated 40 Renewable Energy Credits (RECs) to offset the electricity used during the Cleveland Cavaliers basketball game at Quicken Loans Arena on April 10, 2012. The RECs were generated at the Meyersdale wind facility located in Somerset County, Pennsylvania.
When a renewable energy generator – such as a wind farm – produces electricity that is certified and sold into the wholesale electricity market, it also produces RECs. A REC represents the positive environmental attributes associated with putting renewable power onto the grid. By contributing 40 RECs, FirstEnergy Solutions is adding an amount of renewable power to the grid equivalent to the estimated amount of power that will be used during the game.
“FirstEnergy Solutions is pleased to donate these renewable energy credits to Quicken Loans Arena and the Cleveland Cavaliers for tonight’s game, helping to support the further development of renewable energy,” said Dave Hennekes, vice president of Retail Marketing at FirstEnergy Solutions.
