PSE&G Installs Energy Efficient LED Fixtures for Municipal Streetscapes and Security

April 11, 2012

NEWARK, N.J., April 11, 2012 /PRNewswire/ — Public Service Electric & Gas Company (PSE&G) has begun installing LED lights that increase reliability and security, are environmentally friendly, and decrease light pollution.

The first LED light fixture installations have been completed at Montclair State University, United Water in Haworth and in New Brunswick on George Street between Bayard Street and Liberty Street. The Rutgers University Newark campus is currently undergoing installations. The new lighting is available to municipalities and for commercial customers throughout the utility’s service territory.

PSE&G is offering a flood light, decorative post top, and a small cobra head fixture for its customers. The new fixtures last eight times longer and have greater reliability and are more durable to environmental conditions. PSE&G is the first utility in New Jersey to provide LED lights for small and large-scale municipal and commercial applications. The fixtures increase reliability, enhance color – providing an additional element of security – and reduce our carbon footprint.

“By offering LED lighting, we are providing environmentally sustainable options for municipalities and business customers,” said Joseph A. Forline, PSE&G’s vice president of Customer Operations. “We are pleased to offer this technology to meet our customers’ needs for lighting that is both highly reliable and good for the environment.”

LED flood lights provide direct lighting with a crisp, white light. Their average life expectancy is 80,000 hours (or 18 years) as compared to an average of 12,000 hours for non-LED flood lights. The improved reliability means longer life and fewer outages. Also, LED lights are mercury free, contain no hazardous materials and decrease carbon dioxide emissions, all of which have a positive impact on the environment. Offering this new lighting technology supports PSE&G’s mission of providing safe, reliable, economic and green energy.

Public Service Electric and Gas Company (PSE&G) is New Jersey’s oldest and largest regulated gas and electric delivery utility, serving nearly three-quarters of the state’s population. PSE&G is the winner of the ReliabilityOne Award for superior electric system reliability. PSE&G is a subsidiary of Public Service Enterprise Group Incorporated (PSEG) (NYSE: PEG), a diversified energy company (www.pseg.com).
