Spectrum Challenges for Air, Sea Battlespace Operations Addressed
ALEXANDRIA, Va., April 27, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — The Association of Old Crows (AOC) delivers a redesigned and interactive conference series June 5-6 in Charleston, SC. This annual conference entitled: “EW, IO & Cyber Capabilities for Air, Sea Battlespace Operations” focuses on how technology will drive integration across target sets common to Electronic Warfare (EW), Information Operations (IO), and Cyber Warfare. This two-day conference features both unclassified and classified discussions. The unclassified portion on June 5th will be at the Citadel Military College of South Carolina, and the second day on June 6th will be at SPAWAR Systems Center.
Mr. Austin Branch, SES, Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) chairs this conference. Presentations begin, facilitated by the Air Sea Battle Office (ASBO), by focusing on the operational concept of Air, Sea Battlespace, identifying the key enabling capabilities needed to meet rising threats in the South China Sea. Day 1 sessions include responses and perspectives from representatives of U.S. Strategic Command, Joint Electromagnetic Spectrum Control Center (JEMSCC), Joint Staff (JS J7), industry, and service members on the implications forthcoming for EW/Cyber capabilities. Following, is the OSD and the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology & Logistics (AT&L) presenting EW policy updates and their response to the recent U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) report assessing Airborne Electronic Attack. Day 2 sessions at SPAWAR include the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Research & Engineering (ASD R&E), U.S. Central Command, and Defense Advanced Research Project Agency (DARPA) advising on the current status of EW, IO, and Cyber integration and the supporting technological advancements. Additionally, the Office of the Director, Operational Test & Evaluation (DOT&E) and Joint Staff J7 will address joint EW/IO/Cyber range environments for testing, training, and education.
A one-day professional development course on “Survey of EW and Cyber Applications” is offered in conjunction with the conference on June 4. Instructing the course is, Mr. Lynn Berg, (Electronic Warfare Subject Matter Expert- USAF). This survey course discusses fundamental characteristics of electromagnetic energy, EW targeting principles, wireless network technology and standards, distinctions between the Electromagnetic Spectrum (EMS) and Cyberspace, directed energy, and the convergence of electronic attack and cyber attack effects.
