The announcement of the creation of Australia´s first Small Business Commissioner, to be appointed later in 2012, has been been applauded by both the Council of Small Business Australia, and online business creation mentor, Fiona Lewis.

“Australian small businesses have for decades struggled with government red tape when trying to secure government contracts and meeting the often complex requirements government policies” said Ms Lewis, author of ℠Mumpreneurs Online: Exposed´.

In making the announcement, Australian Prime Minister, Julia Gillard, said that the office will become a one-stop shop to advise time-poor small businesses about government policies and programs.

It is the second small and medium enterprise (SME) initiative in as many weeks, with the announcement of Brendan O´Connor as the new Federal Minister for Small Business.

“With a growing number of women embracing online opportunities, and taking the decision to work from home, Australia is experiencing a real shift in the concept of ℠small business´” said Ms Lewis. “If the offices of the new Minister and Commissioner are in tune with this phenomenon, Australian families will be the winners.”

Following the publication of ℠Mumpreneurs Online Exposed´ Ms Lewis has been contacted by thousands of women from all over the world, all of whom have been inspired to establish their own online business. The requests for mentorship have now led to the creation of a private membership site ℠Mentoring Mums Online´, which draws on the expertise and support of women who are already running successful online businesses.

“To help those who are very new to the opportunities available online, we have created a 12 module fast-start program and ongoing podcasts – interviews with women who are experts in their niches – will keep the information we deliver fresh, and cutting-edge.”

“With the Australian Government now planning to offer additional support for small business with the creation of a special Commissioner, we hope that meeting compliance, tax and tender guidelines will be much easier, and inspire even more work from home ideas.
