June 8, 2012

CHICAGO, June 8, 2012 /PRNewswire/ — For the seventh consecutive year, Siemens is the keynote sponsor of Chicago Cares Serve-a-thon, the not-for-profit’s single-day volunteer event on June 9th that puts approximately 5,000 people to work on projects throughout the city, painting and improving Chicago Public Schools. Siemens’ ongoing financial commitment has been supported by the efforts of its employees who, since 2003, have participated in this event contributing more than 11,000 hours of service under the Siemens Caring Hands banner, the company’s community service and employee volunteer program.

Once again, Chicago Cares volunteers will be turning out in force thanks to Siemens continued and generous support,” says Chicago Cares executive director Bridget Altenburg. “Siemens’ financial contribution, as well as its employees’ participation have made a dramatic impact–not only by making Chicago Public School classrooms better, brighter, more inviting places to learn–but also by supporting Chicago Cares’ mission of connecting volunteers with communities across Chicago.”

To serve and volunteer in the communities where Siemens employees live and work is a strong and common ethic–one that is supported through Siemens national Caring Hands volunteer initiative. The thousands of hours employees contribute each year to hundreds of projects nationwide reveals how motivated Siemens employees are to participate; involving themselves with well known organizations including the American Cancer Society, Hope for the Warriors, American Heart Association, Rebuilding America, Habitat for Humanity, and many other United Way and local community organizations.

“We are sincerely grateful to be able to play such a prominent role supporting Chicago Cares Serve-a-thon,” says Mark Evans, vice president, Siemens Building Technologies Division. “The time and effort our employees put in reveal a common set of values–ones we hold as a company, but also as individuals. There are people from all walks of life working to sustain the city’s communities and make Chicago a great place to work and live and we are extremely proud to count ourselves among them on this great day of service.”
