Showcasing fresh ideas for transforming outdoor spaces into stylish destinations for dining, entertaining, relaxation and play – and featuring a variety of leading outdoor living brands, including Trex® – the “Ultimate Outdoor Living Room” offered visitors design ideas and inspiration through innovative product installations and multiple workshops hosted by Sunset editors, experts and television personalities.

The dream backyard was equipped with eco-friendly materials and unexpected features at every turn – from an outdoor shower to a reclaimed palette wood bar, outdoor rocker bed, inventive shading systems and “pop up” furniture built directly into the deck.

A focal point of the “Ultimate Outdoor Living Room” was an expansive, multi-level deck constructed of Trex Transcend®, the number one brand of high-performance decking. Featuring superior beauty and durability, Transcend boasts an exclusive surface formulation that resists staining, scratching and mold – while ensuring that its rich, saturated colors will remain looking “like new” for years to come. The Sunset designers selected Transcend in Spiced Rum, a warm, earthy brown that replicates the look of tropical hardwood – right down to the realistic color variations and streaking. Transcend is also manufactured of 95 percent recycled content.

In addition to providing a beautiful and durable “floor” for the “Ultimate Outdoor Living Room,” Trex Transcend was used in a variety of dramatic and surprising ways – including built-in chaise lounges and curved modular walls that provided shade for seating and dining areas.

Below the “Ultimate Outdoor Living Room,” Trex Elevations(TM) steel deck framing system ensured that the deck remained smooth and study.
