EVANSVILLE, Ind., July 16, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — Homes for Our Troops (www.homesforourtroops.org), a national non-profit organization dedicated to building specially adapted homes for severely injured veterans, will hold a three-day build brigade in Evansville, Indiana on July 20 – 22, to begin construction of a home for Army SGT Kenneth Harker.

The Build Brigade begins with a ceremony Friday, July 20 at 8:30 a.m. Following the opening event, volunteers will work together to raise the home’s first wall. The goal of the three-day build is to frame, side, and roof the house and install windows and doors. Interior and finishing work will be completed in the following months. The home will provide Harker with maximum freedom of movement and the ability to live more independently. Jacob Tamme, tight end, formerly of the Indianapolis Colts, now of the Denver Broncos, will join Homes for Our Troops during the event on Friday. Since 2010, Tamme’s Swings for Soldiers golf tournament has raised nearly $300,000 for the organization.

Sergeant Harker was on his second deployment in June 2008 when he lost both of his legs in Baghdad, Iraq after an EFP (Explosively Formed Penetrator) tore through his HUMMVEE. He looks forward to recovering in a home built to accommodate his needs, providing him with more freedom and independence.

“Having a home that is adapted for me instead of the frustrations of adapting to a home that does not fit my needs will give me more motivation and confidence to complete my goals and be comfortable doing so,” said Harker.
