Greater Grace Temple’s Classic Car Show Celebrates Its “50th Year” As Part Of A Huge Block Party Celebration In Detroit
GGT’S CLASSIC AND NEW CAR SHOW COMBINES WITH “BISHOP’S BIRTHDAY BLOCK PARTY” FOR A GRAND CELEBRATION OF A MOTOR CITY TRADITION
DETROIT, July 16, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — It began as an enhancement to a barbecue dinner fundraiser. The church would sell barbecue dinners to raise money, and the deacons would bring their classic cars to draw a crowd. Now 50-years later, it’s a Motor City tradition that has developed into part of a grand celebration. The GGT Classic Car Show is but one part of Bishop’s Birthday Block Party, which will sprawl across the entire 19-acre Greater Grace Temple (City of David) complex. It happens Saturday, July 21, 12 noon to 8:00 p.m, and admission is FREE.
It’s a full day of food, gospel music, games, prizes, rides for the kids, and of course, those classics, hot rods and new cars right off the showroom floor. More than 40 classics, hotrods and new cars will be on display. In addition to the cars, there will be a outdoor concert featuring some of the top names in gospel music. The concert features the Rance Allen Group, Dorinda Clark-Cole, and 21:03. It’s also free and open to everyone.
Most of the activity will happen at the City of David in God’s Graceland Park in front of Greater Grace Temple and spill over into its nearby parking lots. While admission is FREE, the food is available at a nominal fee. For more information, call 313-543-6000, or visit www.greatergrace.org. God’s Graceland Park is located in front of Greater Grace Temple, 23500 W. Seven Mile Road in Detroit, MI 48219.
