NRHA Earns 4 National Awards Of Merit
NORFOLK, Va., Aug. 2, 2012 /PRNewswire/ — Norfolk Redevelopment & Housing Authority (NRHA) has received four Awards of Merit for 2012 from the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials (NAHRO). The honors recognize four projects that demonstrate worldwide best practices in housing and community development.
Shurl Montgomery, chief executive officer for NRHA, recently accepted the awards at the NAHRO summit in San Francisco, Calif. One of the projects is a fire safety program designed to lower the risk of kitchen fires in assisted-rental units. So far, the rate of fires in NRHA communities has decreased by 90%. NRHA’s mobile-device-friendly website also received the Award of Merit. The other two projects are a photo archive of over 14,000 historical photographs of Norfolk, Va. real estate and neighborhoods, dating back to 1868, and the development of a marketing toolkit for the NRHA Builders and Designers Guild, which includes a real estate section on NRHA’s website that is a searchable database of homes for sale in Norfolk (http://www.nrha.us/homes-for-sale).
“We are honored to receive recognition for these projects,” said LaRhesa Christmas, communications and marketing specialist for NRHA. “As the largest Redevelopment and Housing Authority in Virginia, we strive to undertake and promote programs in Norfolk that enhance the community and the accessibility of information.”
The mobile website and fire safety program have also been nominated for top honors in the NAHRO’s Awards of Excellence. The winners will be announced in October.
