Roper St. Francis Healthcare Scores Nationally on Quality
RSFH again recognized for patient quality and excellence.

Roper St. Francis Healthcare has earned national recognition for its commitment to patient safety and quality care. Continuing its journey to excellence, the system was recently recognized by Becker´s Health Review, The Joint Commission, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the Critical Care Societies Collaborative, Consumer Reports and U.S. News & World Report.
Becker´s Health Review
The healthcare publication released its list of 100 hospitals with great orthopedic programs. Roper Hospital was named to the list and was the only hospital in S.C. to be included.
The Joint Commission
Roper Hospital and Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital have earned The Joint Commission´s Health Care Services Advanced Certification for their Palliative Care Programs – the first two hospitals in the Southeast to achieve this distinguished designation.
The Palliative Care programs at Roper and Bon Secours St. Francis focus on the comfort and dignity of patients who are suffering from life-limiting illnesses. The certification recognizes their dedication to continuous compliance with The Joint Commission´s rigorous standards.
U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and Critical Care Societies Collaborative
Roper Hospital´s Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) was honored as part of a national awards program that highlights successful and sustained efforts to prevent hospital-acquired infections, specifically infections in critical care settings. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services partnered with the Critical Care Societies Collaborative (CCSC) — a multidisciplinary organization — to launch the awards program.
To be recognized, facilities must demonstrate reduction or eliminate ventilator-associated pneumonia for 25 months or longer. They must also show national leadership in sharing their evidence-based initiatives to help improve clinical practice.
Out of 61 hospitals in the state, Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital ranked no. two and Roper Hospital no. seven in the state for patient safety. The rankings were based on a study on 1,159 hospitals in 44 states with data collected from government and independent sources, interviews, medical literature, and hospital inspections with focus on six areas: infections; readmissions; communication; CT scanning; complications; and mortality.

Both Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital and Roper Hospital were named as Best Hospitals. Bon Secours St. Francis, noted for four high-performing specialties (gastroenterology, orthopedics, pulmonary medicine, neurology and neurosurgery), ranked number four in the state.
Roper Hospital was noted for three high-performing specialties (nephrology, urology and orthopedics) and is no. five in the state.
