Streetline Execs to Speak on Parking and Applications at Charged: EV Symposium Silicon Valley
FOSTER CITY, Calif., Aug. 20, 2012 /PRNewswire/ — Streetline Chief Marketing Officer Kelly Schwager and Senior Vice President and Head of Product Management Steve Douty will share insights on the latest Smart Parking technology at Charged: EV Symposium Silicon Valley on August 23(rd) – 24(th) in Palo Alto.
The event being held at the SAP campus in Palo Alto will feature a mix of the hottest companies in the EV industry, along with visionary government leaders and EV customers, discussing the state of the industry today, coming developments, and how governments can shape policy that catalyzes mass adoption. Far from simply addressing the challenges associated with growing adoption, the Symposium will focus on the consumer, and includes panels on innovations in the marketplace, case studies from around the globe, and business models that are putting tire to pavement.
Schwager will discuss Smart Parking and Charging with Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) leaders Coulomb and ECOtality, as well as traffic technology company SWARCO, moderated by PG&E. The panel will explore how parking technology is making it easier for EV drivers to charge, as well as find an open space that is available for charging in real time.
Douty will participate in a session on “Killer Apps for Cars, Mobile, and EVs,” along with leaders from Waze, GottaPark, and QuickPay. The panel will explore the proliferation of data and how this is being used in vehicles and on mobile devices to guide drivers, pay for parking and charging, as well as reserve spaces. With the explosion of data sources coming online, EV drivers will have access to more information than ever that they can use to increase fuel efficiency, improve planning, and coordinate with other drivers.
Streetline continues to expand its Smart Parking technology into the EV space with projects in University of Maryland, College Park, and Boston Green Park & Charge. Green Park & Charge will be a state-of-the art parking facility that will become a showcase as other developers across the country look to build eco-friendly parking facilities – and help the U.S. reach its goal of becoming the first country with more than one million electric vehicles on the road by 2015.
Streetline’s patented smart parking platform detects the presence of a car through a network of ultra-low power wireless sensors located in each parking space. Information from the sensors is then delivered to a suite of web and mobile applications, including Streetline’s free smartphone application, Parker(TM), to help motorists easily find parking. Once parked, motorists can use the app’s built in timer to help keep track of how much time is left for charging, or access walking directions to help find their parking space when they need to return to their vehicle.
President Obama has announced a goal of becoming the first country to have one million electric vehicles on the road by 2015. Recently, Obama reinforced this goal with the “EV Everywhere” plan, which the White House described as, “a clean energy grand challenge to make electric-powered vehicles as affordable and convenient as gasoline-powered vehicles for the average American family within a decade.” The White House says driving electric will save the average driver $100 a month.
