International logo design firm, The Logo Company, has released a stunning Infographic showing the long-standing rivalry between video game company giants Nintendo and Sega.

As well as illustrating the ways in which they have changed through the years in everything from their logos to their business directions, the infographic is strikingly styled to look like famous levels from the companies´ most iconic games, even featuring mascots Sonic and Mario doing battle with sword and shield.

It´s no secret that Nintendo and Sega have been in direct competition with each other since their fledgling years as video games companies. In order to illustrate this, The Logo Company — based in Brooklyn, New York — decided to put its design skills to the test by creating this impressive Infographic, which demonstrates just how closely they´ve competed over the years as well as how much they´ve changed.

The most noteworthy parts of the infographic include:

  • An impressive design that perfectly captures the aesthetics of the companies´ flagship games
  • Two parallel timelines that compare some of the pair´s greatest achievements over the years
  • A look at Nintendo and Sega´s humble beginnings
  • A side-by-side comparison of revenue, net income and employee numbers

Although Nintendo did have a head start on Sega, having started producing playing cards all the way back in 1889, it wasn´t until the late 1960s that they began to dabble in game production. Sega, founded some fifty years later in 1940, cut their teeth by making various coin-operated amusements. However, it was only really in the early 1980s that the Nintendo/Sega console war really began to get going, with a combination of hardware quality and available games continuing to turn the tide back and forth for years to come.

When not producing video game Infographics, the team at The Logo Company spends the majority of its time designing logos for companies both big and small, with clients having included fast food outlets, government authorities and charitable organisations.
