August 27, 2012

HOUSTON, Aug. 28, 2012 /PRNewswire/ — GDF SUEZ Energy Resources NA, one of the largest competitive market retail electricity providers to commercial, industrial, and institutional customers in the country, announced it will host a national webinar on Sept. 20, featuring energy expert Andy Weissman. He will speak on the transformation of U.S. energy markets and the driving factors influencing the price of electricity, natural gas, and coal.

The complimentary, one-hour event will be held from 11 a.m. to noon CDT and will be led by Weissman, publisher of Energy Business Watch. The webinar is the third in the quarterly series titled Current Intelligence, which is presented by GDF SUEZ Energy Resources and focuses on timely subject matter that is informative to commercial, industrial, and institutional electricity buyers.

Weissman’s presentation will include an analysis of a recently completed study on the short- and long-term effects of energy market convergence on electricity and natural gas. He will also deliver his electricity pricing forecast for the winter of 2012 and for the year of 2013. Additional topics the webinar will cover are:

  • How competition between natural gas and coal is changing and dictating prices
  • Whether or not low prices are here to stay
  • How the presidential election could reshape electricity and natural gas markets
  • Lessons learned from this year’s regionally affected extreme weather and massive drought
  • Potential implications of drilling cuts, coal plant retirements, and pending Environmental Protection Agency regulations

“In presenting Current Intelligence, our goal is to provide businesses with information they can use in making decisions when it comes to purchasing electricity,” said David Coffman, Vice President of Marketing for GDF SUEZ Energy Resources. “As a 30-year veteran strategist and counselor to CEOs in the energy sector, Mr. Weissman’s insight will bring an in-depth and informed perspective on managing energy costs, risk, and demand in today’s market.”
