Pingar and Hong Kong Polytechnic University Announce New Milestone in the Analysis and Management of Chinese Text
Integration of University´s advanced research with Pingar´s market-leading unstructured data management solutions now complete
HONG KONG (PRWEB) September 04, 2012
Pingar, a leading provider of unstructured data management solutions, today announced it has completed the integration and commercialisation of the advanced research in Chinese language processing and analysis it has been conducting in partnership with The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU).
Development work by teams from PolyU and Pingar has now been incorporated in Pingar´s Chinese language API. The Pingar API can be added to existing content and document management systems in order to more accurately and efficiently organise, summarise, analyse and share business information.
Organisations in all sectors including government, financial, legal, commercial, utilities and infrastructure that conduct business in Hong Kong SAR and Mainland China need to manage a rising proportion of Chinese language documents. In line with global trends, more and more of these documents are unstructured files, and often all that can be easily detected about them is date of creation or modification and filename, making it difficult to determine if they contain sensitive or useful information.
Mark Lunt, managing director, Pingar Hong Kong Ltd, is delighted with the first results of what he expects to be a long term partnership with PolyU and comments “Organisations in China face huge challenges in managing unstructured text. Because of the structure of the language, there is a whole new dimension of complexity: it is very hard to resolve ambiguities and very easy to confuse names of people, places and organisations. Chinese text differs from other languages in that it is based on complex patterns, terms and combinations of characters and does not contain punctuation.”
“Businesses cannot tolerate error or incompleteness of data used for risk reduction or business intelligence solutions. By combining PolyU´s advanced research with the work being done by our in house specialists, we have ensured that Pingar continues to provide efficient, fast and accurate solutions to the complex issues involved in analyzing and managing Chinese language material,” Mr Lunt concludes.
Professor Eric Ngai, area coordinator of MIS, Department of Management and Marketing, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, adds, “Pingar has identified a very significant opportunity in systems for the management and analysis of documents in Chinese and demonstrated its desire to work collaboratively with our researchers to ensure its technology incorporates the best Chinese language segmentation and name detection available. We are delighted to have successfully completed our first project with Pingar and we look forward to many more in the months and years ahead. It is very satisfying to see the successful commercialisation of our research.”
Professor Ngai and Mr Lunt are pleased to confirm that Pingar and PolyU are currently in discussions about the next phase of their partnership.
