Baetsen Recycling bv today announced it has purchased the world’s first robotic
recycling system, ZenRobotics Recycler(TM) (ZRR), in the Netherlands. The complete system
is the highest technology available for waste management today. In total, the deal is
valued at more than EUR 1 million. The system will be installed starting in February 2013
at Baetsen’s recycling plant in Son. The demands of installing the robotic recycling
system will be met by the waste management technology experts Busschers Recycling
The ZenRobotics Recycler system reclaims valuable raw materials from construction and
demolition (CND) waste, by using industrial robots controlled with artificial
intelligence. Baetsen Recycling, active in one of world’s leading technological regions,
aims to be a front-runner in innovative recycling technology.
“The increasing shortages in raw material supply, the under-utilized potential in
waste materials and the complexities in manual waste sorting all demand a permanent,
sustainable solution. Baetsen is taking the lead in recovering valuable fractions from
waste. In the EU, materials recovery and resource efficiency are increasingly prioritized,
and regulation in the near future will further focus in this area. Robotic recycling is
the future: it is more efficient, cleaner, and safer than existing methods”, says Hans van
Roosmalen, CEO, Baetsen Group.
“ZenRobotics Recycler is an energy-efficient system for picking raw materials from
waste. The system has a highly lucrative payback time. We see ZenRobotics Recycler as the
solution for the raw materials shortage already felt globally. Baetsen’s region of
operations upholds one the world’s strictest environmental requirements, so this is a
first-class design win for ZenRobotics”, emphasizes Rainer Rehn, CCO, ZenRobotics Ltd.
ZenRobotics Ltd. is a high-end environmental technology company based in Helsinki,
Finland. In the 26-strong company one in three holds a PhD. ZenRobotics makes ZenRobotics
Recycler(TM), an AI-controlled robotic recycling system. Currently the ZRR system reclaims
valuable raw materials from Construction and Demolition (CND) waste. ZRR is marketed
globally through a reseller network in 49 countries.
In over fifty years the Baetsen Group has grown into an organization with operations
in transport, recycling, containers, crane rental, building materials and plastics. In all
its services for companies, municipal governments and private individuals, sustainability
is a high priority. This is reflected in, among other things, one of the company’s core
activities: recycling. Every year almost one million tons of waste is being recycled into
raw materials for reuse.
All Baetsen’s working methods and the usage of materials and machines are targeted
towards easing the pressure on the environment and creating a clearer, healthier world.
