Curtimade Dairy Joins Growing List of California Agriculture Businesses Slashing Energy Costs by Deploying the SPG Solar SunSeeker® Tracker

October 16, 2012

NOVATO, Calif., Oct. 16, 2012 /PRNewswire/ — SPG Solar, a leading provider of commercial solar power products and services, announced its partnership with Curtimade Dairy in an open house event at the dairy’s Tulare, Calif. facility. The dairy recently completed the installation of a 719 kilowatt (kW) solar array featuring SunSeeker® Tracker, SPG’s industry-leading single axis tracker. By deploying this new solar system, Curtimade — a 3,000 cow dairy in business for nearly 100 years — is realizing energy cost savings of $145,000 per year.

Dozens of attendees at the open house, including dairy producers, vegetable growers and food processors, learned first-hand how SPG Solar’s revolutionary SunSeeker single-axis tracker improves solar production by up to 25 percent.

“It was a fantastic opportunity for producers to see a large-scale system up close and get comfortable with the technology,” said Dylan Dupre, SPG Solar’s vice president of business development. “The open house allowed us to show them how they can go solar with no upfront capital outlay, see immediate savings in Year 1, and gain long-term control of their energy prices.”

“It’s the easiest crop we have; it just sits there, produces and I can count on it to keep making me money,” said Ben Curti, a fourth-generation owner of Curtimade Dairy, when talking about his solar power system that is powering 85 percent of the dairy’s operations – the energy equivalent of powering 130 American homes for a year. “For agricultural businesses here in the Central Valley, solar makes sense since it helps us lower our operating costs and improve our bottom line.”

“In the ag community there are many prices you can’t control – like feed prices and crop prices – but owners can gain control of their operating costs through solar,” said Michael Washam, Tulare County Economic Development Manager. “We are committed to helping our community expedite the solar permitting process so owners can benefit from the immediate and long-term stability solar offers.”

In an effort to promote clean, inexpensive renewable energy in California’s Central Valley, SPG Solar will be co-hosting a series of events in 2012 and 2013 to help agricultural businesses of all types better understand the tremendous value of solar.
