Pasadena, CA (PRWEB) December 09, 2012
The outlook for those in the counseling industry just got a little brighter thanks to new numbers released by CounselingCrossing.com. The employment site that specifically lists jobs in the counseling field reported an increase in open positions over the past several months, indicating a positive trend for the future of those in this industry. Specifically, the site reported a 7.07-percent increase in positions between August and November and a 1.71-percent increase between October and November. Those who wish to search jobs on the site would have found 15,221 positions in October and 15,485 positions in November. Likewise, the site currently lists thousands of jobs listed by employers looking to hire counselors.
These numbers coincide well with job outlook data collected by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The BLS projects dramatic increases in positions for counselors across a variety of specialties between 2010 and 2020. Educational, Guidance, School, and Vocational Counselors are projected to increase by 19-percent. Marriage and Family Therapists are slated to increase as much as 41-percent. Finally, Substance Abuse and Behavioral Disorder Counselors are projected to increase by 27-percent.
All of this data acts as positive indicators for the counseling industry, says A. Harrison Barnes, CEO of CounselingCrossing.com. “We´re seeing a continuous upward trend in job postings for counselors, which is soundly backed up by the BLS data,” says Barnes. “Really, anyone looking to get into this field will likely find work quickly if the number of positions continues to rise at this same pace.” The BLS projections indicate that is very likely to happen.
Still, those who are nervous about entering any industry like counseling should keep a close watch on CounselingCrossing.com for its open position numbers. This can give employees an up to the minute look at how their field is fairing in the economy. “There will always be a need for counselors,” says Barnes, “Thankfully, most economic projections seem to agree.”
