As OSHA’s Hazard Communication Standard Compliance Deadline Looms, Environmental Resource Center Offers Tailor-Made Training at Client Sites
CARY, N.C., Feb. 12, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — Every workplace in the US has only months to train employees on the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA’s) newly revised Hazard Communication Standard (HCS). The consulting firm Environmental Resource Center(®) is helping employers meet the deadline of December 1, 2013, by delivering customized training on clients’ premises.
“The HCS now aligns with the United Nations’ Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS) and ensures that workers who handle chemicals have clear and consistent information regarding the health and physical hazards. However, it is a huge departure from OSHA’s old hazard communication system,” explained Brian Karnofsky, company president. “But for an organization to be in compliance, its employees need to be updated now on the new standardized classification and labeling system, including several new hazards and new definitions for many of the hazard classes. That’s a significant undertaking, and the time needed for preparation can fly by before you know it.”
“We’ll have our trainers come to you and deliver training around your workforce’s time schedule and at your facilities,” Karnofsky continued. “Customized training is so much better than canned online training, generic PowerPoints or videos because we train employees on the actual chemicals in their workplace and their employer’s specific procedures.”
The on-site training also includes hands-on instruction and exercises that incorporate each facility’s materials and procedures. Participants also have access to Environmental Resource Center’s Answerline(TM), which they can use to quickly obtain answers to follow-up questions related to training subject matter.
On-site class participants receive the following:
- Free access to Environmental Resource Center’s Answerline service for one year.
- Comprehensive handbooks, both in print and on searchable CD-ROM, detailing how to comply with the latest regulatory requirements and containing appendices with the most recent federal regulations.
- Free handbook updates for one year, so as the regulations change, Environmental Resource Center publishes updates on its company website that students can download for up to a year following the training.
- Certificates of completion for each class attendee as evidence of training and in compliance with regulatory recordkeeping requirements.
“We’ve provided customized on-site training at thousands of industrial and government facilities in the United States and abroad,” said Karnofsky. “Many companies have been so impressed with our custom training services that they have rehired us for 10 to 20 consecutive years.” State and federal agencies, including the Environmental Protection Agency, have contracted the company to present safety and environmental training for their personnel.
“On-site training is an efficient and economical way to train your employees and it reduces time away from the job,” concluded Karnofsky. “With Environmental Resource Center’s on-site Health and Environmental Learning Program (HELP(TM)), you can be assured that your employees will come away with the knowledge and skills they need to perform their jobs in compliance with the new HCS regulations.”
