Plastimayd Deploys TDCI’s BuyDesign as New Generation Product Configuration and Quoting Solution in Rapid Timeframe

National Manufacturer of Pool Liners and Covers Utilizing BuyDesign with Microsoft Dynamics AX to Support Sales and Manufacturing of Highly Customized Products

TDCI, the leading provider of configurator-based software, announced today that Plastimayd LLC, manufacturer of the Plastimayd, VynAll and CoverLogix brands of pool liners and covers, has deployed TDCI´s BuyDesign as the company´s new generation product configuration and quoting system. BuyDesign is being used to develop quotes and enter orders for nearly all of Plastimayd´s custom-designed residential and commercial products, and to generate manufacturing information to drive production within the company´s Microsoft Dynamics AX Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system.

BuyDesign helps manufacturers transform the way they sell, enabling a buying experience that matches the way customers really want to buy. BuyDesign uses guided product selection and configuration with dynamic product visualization to make the perfect fit between the manufacturer´s solutions and the customer´s needs, and then produces compelling quotes and proposals to seal the deal. BuyDesign continues into the back office to generate accurate, comprehensive manufacturing information to drive production. Companies in many different industries are using BuyDesign to increase revenues, reduce costs and benefit from customer loyalty in the form of repeat business.

“We´re very pleased that we were able to embed the nearly 20 years of Plastimayd´s design and quoting knowledge that was in our custom-developed software into the BuyDesign platform within just 6 months,” said Plastimayd IT Director, Steve Terhune. “That was an aggressive timetable, but with the help of TDCI we were able to pull it off. The fact that BuyDesign already included a flexible integration component for Microsoft Dynamics AX also helped speed our implementation.”

“With the deployment of BuyDesign, we have significantly reduced the expense of custom software development and maintenance. Plastimayd can now introduce new products and product changes much more quickly using our internal staff without outsourcing the programming resources,” added Terhune.

BuyDesign guides Plastimayd sales people through specification of pool liner or cover shape and dimensions and then produces a detail drawing for design confirmation. A quote document is produced showing base product as well as prices for various options such as material grade and pattern, extra reinforcement and hardware. Once the customer makes their choices, additional design details are specified by Plastimayd customer service personnel and BuyDesign passes the order to Microsoft Dynamics AX along with Bills of Material, Process Routings and CNC files to drive material cutting machines.

“With BuyDesign we´ve been able to simplify the quoting and ordering user interface from the way it was done in our old system,” explains Terhune. “BuyDesign guides the user through a series of questions rather than putting all the information on one screen. In addition to helping make the process more consistent across staff, the new process is easier to understand and should help us quickly train new people as we expand our staff to support growth.”

Plastimayd´s next step will be to provide dealers with online self-service capabilities to produce quotes and place orders themselves. “One of the reasons we selected BuyDesign was the fact that it enables us to deploy a single tool for both internal and external users while tailoring the experience to each group,” continued Terhune. “That capability will be especially valuable as we complete the next phase of dealer enablement.”
