Grow Vending in Support of New California Healthy Vending Bill
Grow is a powerful voice in changing the way people think about vending.
Irvine, CA (PRWEB) March 02, 2013
The principles behind Grow Vending are aligned with the new bill introduced by California lawmakers to regulate snacks sold in vending machines. The bill would require at least 50% of the food sold in vending machines on state properties to meet implemented nutritional guidelines by Jan. 1, 2015, followed by 75% compliance in 2016, and ending with 100% compliance by 2017.
Grow Vending´s mission is to offer alternatives to the chemically laden, nutritionally bankrupt drinks and snacks that are so readily available today. Grow machines contain a combination of all-natural, organic drinks and snacks with traditional vending products.
The proposed bill requires the “healthy” selection of snacks in vending machines to be less than 200 calories, contain less than 230 mg. of sodium per serving and to be free of trans fats. Beverage contents are also under close scrutiny, with bans on added caloric sweeteners and fruit-based drinks that are not made up of at least 50% real fruit juice.
These “healthy” snacks sold in the vending machines are compliant with the Alliance for a Healthier Generation´s “35-10-35” rule: food must provide no more than 35% of calories from fat, 10% of total calories from saturated fat and be no more than 35% of sugar by weight.
Grow Vending´s specialized menu plans are designed to exceed these nutritional guidelines. Licensed dieticians on staff create custom menus for the machines to cater to each specific location, taking in to account local, state and federal guidelines. Grow´s healthy product selection bans ingredients like high fructose corn syrup, hydrogenated oils and artificial sweeteners. As a resolution to the concern surrounding high-calorie, sugary drinks, Grow machines also offer natural juices, sodas, teas and other healthy alternatives.
Grow provides a variety of healthy and traditional products in order to gradually introduce people to healthy foods and drinks. Local grow operators work with locations to meet their specific snack and drink preferences.
