MDA to provide digital elevation products for flood hazard analysis
RICHMOND, BC, March 18, 2013 /CNW/ - MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Ltd. (“MDA”) (TSX: MDA), a global communications and information company, announced today that
it has signed a multi-million dollar contract with Accent Micro
Technologies Inc. (AMTI) to provide digital elevation products using
RADARSAT-2 information to the University of the Philippines. Covering
the entire Philippines, over 300,000 square kilometers of digital
elevation products will be provided within a six month period. A
digital elevation product is a 3-D representation of the land surface,
providing height information that is useful for a variety of mapping
applications. The University of the Philippines plans to use the
digital elevation products to perform flood hazard analysis and to
support disaster management and planning, in support of their Disaster
Risk Exposure and Assessment for Mitigation (DREAM) project.
The RADARSAT-2 satellite has global high-resolution surveillance
capabilities that include a large collection capacity and high
accuracy. The satellite acquires data regardless of light or weather
condition, provides frequent re-visit imaging options, and is supported
by ground receiving stations that provide near real-time information
delivery services. This versatility makes RADARSAT-2 a reliable source
of information in multi-faceted intelligence surveying and monitoring
