10rate.com editors collaborate to look at lawnmowers, trimmers, and blowers across different categories to choose the best from each

ATLANTA, March 26, 2013 /PRNewswire-iReach/ — Spring has officially arrived. 10rate.com editors know that with Spring comes yard work. In an effort to take the guess work out of picking equipment for the yard, Steve Holdgren and Jon Bannister have rated some of the best tools for the job. They looked at the best riding lawnmowers, push mowers, weed eaters, and leaf blowers. After deciding which 10 to review for each list, ratings on a scale of 10 and editor’s choice awards were assigned. Awards were based on the best quality, best value, and the best price.

Jon Bannister was first up with his Riding Lawnmowers Ratings list. He rated each mower based on factors like a comfortable seat, ease of operation, turning radius, width of cutting path, and the power of the motor. The Husqvarna YTH2042 won the top spot of the list with a rating of 9.5 out of 10. It’s got a 20 horsepower motor and, “comes loaded with useful features. Things like the fender mounted cutting height adjustment, air induction, anti-scalp wheels, and hydrostatic transmission all come together to make this one of the most useful tools you’ll use in the yard. It’s built for comfort too.” Jon also emphasized the usefulness of having a smaller sized riding mower like this one.

Steve Holdgren also covered mowers, but he looked at the push variety. The Honda HRX2172VKA sits at the top of the Walk Behind Mower Reviews list with a rating of 9.5 and the best quality award. He said, “this Honda self-propelled mower is expensive, but as they say, you get what you pay for. With this machine, that includes a 4-in-1 cutting system that efficiently mulches, bags, and discharges clippings and shreds leaves. The rear bag’s capacity is adequately large at 2.5 bushels,” in his review.

The work isn’t done after the mowing is finished. To make a yard perfect, some edging and trimming needs to be done. Jon compiled a list to name the Best Weed Eater available. He chose the Hitachi CG22EASSLP to take the best spot with the best quality award. He was impressed with the engine on this one. “With a two-stroke engine, it’s easy to get it powered up and running, and it runs for at least 90 minutes with no problems. And if you prefer gas-powered lawn trimmers for their extra power, you’ll be happy with this CARB-compliant model, which doesn’t surround you in a cloud of exhaust.”

Once the mowing and trimming are done, the only thing left is to clean up. The fastest way to clean up yard trimmings is with a blower. Steve chose the Toro 51599 as the Best Blower. It received a rating of 9.5 and the best quality award because it is, “quieter, lighter, and more eco-friendly alternative to the gas blower, this Toro variable speed electric blower saves you the trouble of maintaining a gas-operated blower and dealing with a complicated start-up system. This Toro blower starts up immediately and has strong blowing power: up to 235 mph.”
