ROAMWORKS White Paper Reveals How M2M Minimizes Fuel Tax Reporting Burdens
M2M technology forging new path with streamlined fleet reporting capabilities
ATLANTA, April 24, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — ROAMWORKS, an international M2M software and solutions provider recently released a white paper, “Using Fleet Telematics to Reduce Fuel Tax Reporting,” which addresses myriad administrative burdens associated with International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA) compliance.
Per the IFTA, truck drivers must document each time they cross state lines so that taxes can be redistributed to the jurisdictions traveled in, based on driving records, rather than to the state where the operational base of the fleet is located. The allocation of taxes under the IFTA also includes the variances across states in regards to fuel tax rules and regulations. The variance is fuel tax.
To maintain compliance, most companies either hire a dedicated person or they require the office administrator to gather the manually recorded logs of driver information. The process is extremely labor intensive and the risk of calculation errors by the driver, the administrator and the fleet manager approving and submitting the documentation each quarter screams for a better, more advanced solution.
Fleet companies are beginning to turn to telematics providers to automate this reporting process. Telematics is literally the combination of telecommunications and informatics. Information relayed through a device attached to an asset in the field, communicates relevant data through a network into a software platform that is designed to capture, analyze, transmit, distribute and display data through an application. While most trucking companies realize the value of telematics from a tracking and recovery standpoint, the real value comes from the data and how customers can use it to automate and improve a number of financial, human resources, management, and in-field business practices.
Offering customizable features such as the configuration and reporting on fuel tax processes is one of the many support features available by ROAMWORKS to it’s trucking customer base. “Powered by the ROAM platform, our vehicle and fleet tracking application provides the scale and flexibility to support a wide range of logistics partners”, states Gary Page, President of ROAMWORKS USA. “Our customers work directly with our sales and development teams and have an integral role in the evolution of our product suite.
