As the Vice President of construction services company Consolidated Reinforcement, Travis Gilpin highlights the importance of Building Safety Month–a comprehensive awareness program set to occur throughout May 2013.

AUSTIN, Texas, May 9, 2013 /PRNewswire-iReach/ — As the Vice President of Consolidated Reinforcement–an Austin-based business focused on offering materials to engineering and construction industries–Travis Gilpin takes great pride in providing products that reinforce safety. Whether one is concerned about workplace safety or the overall stability of a structure, Gilpin believes that it is essential for all professionals to stay highly aware of how to avoid hazards in construction. For this reason, Gilpin highlights Building Safety Month 2013, a program established by the International Code Council (ICC) to raise awareness about many potential safety issues in construction and engineering.

The ICC website describes the event and reveals, “Founded by the International Code Council (ICC), Building Safety Month (BSM) is celebrated by jurisdictions worldwide during the month of May. Building Safety Month is a public awareness campaign offered each year to help individuals, families and businesses understand what it takes to create and sustain safe and sustainable structures. The campaign reinforces the need for adoption of modern, model building codes, a strong and efficient system of code enforcement and a well-trained, professional workforce to maintain the system.”

Throughout the course of the month, the ICC invites citizens from all over the globe to take part in educational lessons and discussions surrounding the issues of fire safety, disaster mitigation, backyard and pool safety, as well as matters involving energy resources and green building. According to construction industry and engineering professional Travis Gilpin this comprehensive approach is one that can help shed more light on issues that are experienced in structural buildings throughout the world.

“From the recent tragedy in West, Texas, to devastation caused by the Sichuan, China earthquake, it is clear that builders, developers and engineers need to take a complete look at workplace and structural safety throughout the world. It is my hope that Building Safety Month will not only inspire industry professionals to seek new solutions in construction materials and technology, but will also inform the public about the matter,” Travis Gilpin comments.

While Gilpin indicates that there is much room for awareness in regards to building safety, he notes that programs like Building Safety Month have already stimulated a great deal of progress in  structural design and planning. “Building Safety Month has continued to gain support from elected officials, businesses and citizens all over the globe for 33 years. I believe that this international dialogue has already inspired a great deal of unity on the issue of safety and will continue to encourage the industry to not only pursue projects to satisfy efficiency, but also security,” Travis Gilpin concludes.

Travis Gilpin is the Vice President of Consolidated Reinforcement, a family-owned business based in Austin, Texas and specializing in the provision of materials to construction crews, civil and structural engineers, and drafters.
