Global consumption of general lighting LED linear tube lamps reached a value of $194 million in 2012. In their newest report released last week, General Lighting LED Tube Lamps Global Market Forecast 2012-2022, ElectroniCast forecasts that this consumption value is forecast to increase at an average annual growth rate of 23% between 2012 and 2017 and 34.2 percent from 2017 to 2022, to nearly $2.37 billion in 2022.

“Compared to incandescent lighting, LED-based solid-state lighting (SSL) delivers visible light with reduced heat. Moreover, its solid-state nature provides for greater resistance to shock, vibration, and wear, thereby significantly increasing its lifespan, which also translates to lower maintenance/labor expenses,” said Stephen Montgomery, the Principal Analyst- LED Practice at ElectroniCast Consultants. The term “solid state” refers to the fact that light in an LED is emitted from a solid object without moving parts or parts that can break, rupture, shatter, leak or contaminate the environment –a block of semiconductor–rather than from a vacuum or gas tube, as is the case in traditional incandescent light bulbs and fluorescent lamps.
