Niche job board/publisher aims to help veterans make a successful transition from active duty to the civilian sector.

Norfolk, VA (PRWEB) June 04, 2013

The Employment Guide®, a division of Dominion Enterprises, has unveiled its newest initiative in support of veterans, “Transitioning Troops.” Featured are employment and career education opportunities focused on helping veterans make a successful transition from active duty to the civilian sector.

In an effort to serve a broader military population, The Employment Guide renewed its partnership with the Military Spouse Corporate Career Network (MSCCN). The two companies have collaborated on previous veterans´ outreach campaigns. MSCCN is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, whose staff of military spouses, caregivers and veterans specializes in helping military members and their spouses receive employment readiness services, resume assistance, virtual training, mentorship, and individualized assistance.

“We are excited to join forces again to pursue our shared vision. This partnership aims to help veterans adjust to civilian life,” said Chris Baker, vice president and general manager at the Employment Guide. “We want to make sure veterans have access to educational and employment opportunities, especially during these challenging economic times. Our commitment to veterans does not come with an expiration date.”

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the unemployment rate among veterans (of all generations) has dropped to 6.2 percent. This figure is slightly lower than the national unemployment rate, which was 7.5 percent as of April 2013.

“Transitioning Troops´ is a part of our continuing efforts to showcase local opportunities to veterans when they get out of the service,” said Lynda Thomas, agency relations manager for the Employment Guide. “With 25,000 veterans retiring from active duty every month, it is our responsibility to support their transition into the civilian workforce. Employers value veterans because they have discipline, technical training and dedication to teamwork.”

Participating employers are featured in the Employment Guide´s online, mobile, print and email campaigns. The website (http://veterans.employmentguide.com/) offers an aesthetically pleasing user interface where veterans can search on any mobile device for military-friendly positions by market. The print publication is available in 25 major markets across the country.
