2014 Corvette Stingray Specs Amplify Anticipation for Chevy’s New Sports Car
Bill Jacobs Joliet prepares to bring elite performance to Chicago customers with new Corvette
JOLIET, Ill., June 25, 2013 /PRNewswire-iReach/ — The 2014 Corvette Stingray has been making cameos at auto shows and race tracks for months. While it was apparent the new Corvette was an impressive specimen, no one knew for certain what it would be capable of — until now. Chevy released the specs for the Stingray with the Z51 Performance Package and they are as eye-popping as you might expect.
Perhaps the most impressive figure amongst the list of newly released specifications is the 0-60 acceleration time, which sits at 3.8 seconds. The 460-horspeower Stingray also sped down a quarter mile track in 12 seconds at 119 mph.
While initial speed and acceleration certainly are a staple of sports cars, the 2014 Corvette Stingray also was tested at the 4.1-mile long track at Virginia International Raceway, posting an incredible time of 2:41.78. According to test results from Car and Driver magazine, the 2014 Stingray completed that track ten seconds faster than the previous generation Z51 while matching the ZR1 package.
While top speed figures are yet to be released, other specs for the Corvette Z51 are available, including a 60-0 braking distance of 107 ft. and max lateral acceleration of 1.03 G.
“The new Stingray constantly communicates feedback to the driver, which makes you feel incredibly confident behind the wheel,” said Jim Mero, Corvette vehicle dynamics engineer. “That confidence encourages you to attack each corner because the Stingray drives so well: the tire grip is incredible; the steering response is some of the best I’ve ever experienced; the Magnetic Ride dampers allow little body roll through the corner, while still soaking up the rumble strips when you clip the apex,” he said. “It’s just addictive on the track.”
Upon its release, the 2014 Corvette Stingray will be available near Chicago at Bill Jacobs Joliet, the area’s leading Chevy dealer. While Chicago sports car enthusiasts await the arrival of the new Corvette, Bill Jacobs Auto Group sponsors Cruise Nights Car Shows throughout the summer for people to admire and showcase their Corvettes and other classic from the Chicago area.
