Pizza Tasting Competition to Benefit Gray Fossil Site

Since 2011, the Young Professionals of the Tri-Cities have been hosting their annual Pie Wars event to raise money for local nonprofit organizations and this year is no exception. The proceeds from this year’s event – “Pie Wars IV: Live Free. Pie Hard.” – will benefit the ETSU and General Shale Brick Natural History Museum and Gray Fossil Site in Gray, Tenn.
As in years past, event-goers will have the chance to taste pizza from local restaurants then vote on their favorite. This year’s participants include Blackthorn Club, Fox’s Pizza Den, Mellow Mushroom, Pizza and Gyro, Scratch Brick Oven and The Main Street Pizza Company. The night will also provide attendees with a live DJ, dancing, drinks and the infamous Man Versus Pizza competition.
“Pie Wars is a favorite event because it exceedingly supports three important metrics of fostering future young professionals: community, involvement and building local business,” said Adam Tate, long-time YPTri member and SunTrust branch manager. “Testimonials from event goers, business owners, and charitable recipients give proof to the importance of this gathering year after year. Pie Wars IV on January 19th should be no different!”
The event, to be held from 5 p.m. until 11 p.m. on Jan. 19, 2014, will take place at The Charles in downtown Johnson City. YPTri was created in 2010 to provide social, professional, and philanthropic opportunities for young professionals in and around the Tri-Cities. Since its inception, the group has held monthly social functions, multiple professional development opportunities, and has worked to raise money and awareness for multiple nonprofits in the region.
