Crunchy Data Solutions Boosts its Position in Open Source Database Development In U.S. Government with Addition of Stephen Frost as Chief Technology Officer
Expert in PostgreSQL joins fast-growing provider of technology and support to U.S. national security and critical infrastructure enterprises
CHARLESTON, S.C. and WASHINGTON, Aug. 21, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — Crunchy Data Solutions, Inc. today announced the addition of Stephen Frost as Chief Technology Officer, a move that will strengthen the company’s role in providing open source database technology and services to the U.S. Government.
Frost is an elite member of the committer team to the PostgreSQL Global Development Group, which oversees the development and refinement of one of the world’s most popular and reliable open-source databases, PostgreSQL. In addition to serving as a Major Contributor and Committer to the PostgreSQL open source project, Frost has led many technical sessions at global conferences, and is an active leader in PostgreSQL user groups. His specialties include data security improvements and project infrastructure.
Intense federal budget pressures have led many government agencies, including the U.S. Department of Defense and U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) to turn to reliable, cost-effective open-source database options, with PostgreSQL being among the most common.
“Crunchy’s mission is to bring open source PostgreSQL to enterprises needing secure and high-performance data management,” said Crunchy CEO Bob Laurence. “Stephen’s commitment to the PostgreSQL community and his leadership in the development of security features make him a fantastic addition to the Crunchy team.
“Stephen will be adding his expertise to that of Greg Smith, another Major Contributor to PostgreSQL who joined Crunchy last year. Together they are a powerful intellectual force, and we are thrilled to have them on our team to advance reliable, secure open-source technology, even in the most sensitive areas of government and national security.”
Stephen Frost added, “Crunchy’s work with secure enterprises and its commitment to the PostgreSQL community make it a perfect fit for me. I’m pleased to be joining the company at a time when enterprises of all sizes are looking for open-source database alternatives, and I look forward to close collaboration with Greg and the rest of the Crunchy team as we bring PostgreSQL to a growing number of customers.”
