Globalstar Announces Debut of Smallest and Lightest Satellite Simplex Data Tracking Tag

October 23, 2007

MILPITAS, Calif., Oct. 23, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) — Globalstar, Inc. (Nasdaq:GSAT), a leading provider of mobile satellite voice and data services to businesses, governments, and individuals, today announced that leading Globalstar simplex data integrator Orbit One, A Numerex Company, has launched a new satellite tracking tag known as the SX1. The SX1 is designed to communicate via the highly reliable Globalstar satellite Simplex data network and is part of Orbit One’s Total Asset Visibility solution. The satellite-based SX1 is part of a complete, turn-key global tracking and monitoring solution that is packaged with hardware, and network services that provides both alert monitoring and GPS-based asset tracking information to customers without the need for cellular networks, external power, or close proximity to an RFID reader.

Measuring approximately 7.25″x 3.25″x 1″ (184x83x25mm) and weighing only 13 ounces (369g), the new SX1 is the smallest and lightest Globalstar Simplex data modem. The SX1 is designed to be affordable and ideal for global supply chain asset management, fleet tracking and data monitoring applications. The inexpensive SX1 can be attached in seconds to high value assets such as intermodal shipping containers, trailers, buoys, barges, mobile generators, etc., by use of several “peel and stick” mounting options and transmit their GPS location over satellite.

“This announcement combined with Orbit One’s purchase of over 30,000 Simplex transmitter units used for integration into the SX1 solution and other solutions, demonstrates their continued commitment as a talented leader, to design, integrate, manufacture and deliver innovative, affordable and highly reliable simplex data solutions,” said Jay Monroe, Chairman and CEO of Globalstar, Inc. “We are also extremely excited to be working with Orbit One’s new parent company, Numerex Corp. We consider the entry of Numerex into the Simplex satellite data market to be one of significance. We look forward to working with such a recognized leader in providing M2M wireless network communications and together we will continue to grow the asset tracking and business-to-business applications market.”

Earlier this year, Numerex Corp. announced that it had acquired the assets of Orbit One Communications, Inc. Numerex will continue the Orbit One business through its wholly owned subsidiary, Orbit One Communications, LLC.

Mr. Monroe added, “The Globalstar Simplex data network provides integrators such as Orbit One with the ability to offer stable and highly reliable satellite tracking as well as data monitoring solutions to their customers. Continuous monitoring of the Globalstar Simplex network indicates that our primary coverage transmission success rate is greater than 99 percent and we expect to be able to offer this type of reliability through the launch of our second-generation satellite constellation. And because current Simplex data products are designed to work with our second-generation satellite constellation, we expect they will provide years of high quality, reliable service.”

Orbit One customers include a wide variety of government, military, and commercial clients that require the ability to manage assets globally. Data such as location coordinates, remote status, alarm and other sensor information can be sent from locations both within and beyond the reach of traditional wireless and terrestrial infrastructure.

“We’ve worked very hard and have had overwhelming success in developing the world’s smallest, reusable or disposable satellite tracking solution for our military and commercial clients that have global tracking requirements,” stated Gary Naden, Vice President of Engineering for Orbit One. “Global supply chain managers have true in-transit visibility of their mobile assets, allowing management of mobile asset inventory on a continent by continent basis. We think of it as ‘Global-RFID’.”

The SX1 is certified to exceed MIL STD 810, IP68+ and NEMA 6P+ ratings, making it an ideal wireless data solution for a variety of extreme environmental conditions. The modem is powered by a field replaceable battery capable of providing up to seven years of uninterrupted service. The SX1 is available with up to a three-year warranty.
