SUPERVALU (NYSE:SVU) is continuing its long-standing commitment to raise awareness and support hunger relief efforts this holiday season by partnering with Food for All through SUPERVALU's Food for All holiday hunger initiative. The point-of-sale program, available at Acme, Albertsons, Cub Foods, Farm Fresh, Hornbacher's, Jewel-Osco, Shop 'n Save and Shoppers Food & Pharmacy retail locations, allows shoppers to purchase a special donation coupon near the check-out stand in amounts of $1, $3 and $5, making it convenient for shoppers to donate during a daily or weekly grocery shopping trip. Proceeds benefit local soup kitchens and food banks, among other charitable organizations that provide hunger relief to those living within SUPERVALU store communities.
The program, which has various launch dates from banner to banner, officially kicked off October 21, 2007 and will wrap by January 6, 2008. Specific program launch dates at participating SUPERVALU banners are as follows:

"Generating awareness for hunger relief through our Food for All initiative remains an important priority for SUPERVALU," said Mike Jackson, SUPERVALU president and COO, who also serves on the Food for All board of directors. "SUPERVALU is proud to support local soup kitchens and food banks through this initiative because they provide such tremendous value to so many communities."
"Food for All is unique, not only because the contributions benefit the donor's own community, but the local stores can customize which outlets the funds are donated to and how much is allocated for that donation," said Denis Zegar, president and CEO of Food for All. "There's no such thing as a 'one size fits all' approach when it comes to fighting hunger relief, and we're proud to partner with SUPERVALU to fight hunger on such a localized level."
Collectively in 2006, SUPERVALU banners distributed more than 37.6 million pounds of food to food banks across the nation. SUPERVALU also supports hunger relief by offering the Fresh Rescue program in many markets throughout its 2,500-store network, providing local food banks with dairy and meat product donations that have a limited shelf life but are critical components for a healthy diet.
