Alcoa Launches Oil and Gas Web Site Highlighting New Technologies for Offshore Exploration and Production
Posted on: Tuesday, 23 October 2007, 12:01 CDT
Alcoa announced today that it has launched a new website (www.alcoaoilandgas.com) that highlights the significant advantages of its technologies for providing better program economics, speed, and range versus traditional materials used in oil and gas exploration and production. In particular for offshore operations, Alcoa is developing and deploying technologies capable of reducing overall weight on a rig by more than 1,000 tons, which will help enable the industry to economically reach reserves previously thought to be too expensive to develop.
"These products are highly engineered and are designed with the same leading edge technologies as Alcoa applies to the aerospace industry. Through the unique combination of innovative proprietary alloys, engineering and design expertise, and unparalleled manufacturing assets we will allow the industry to drill faster, farther, and deeper in offshore and extended reach operations," said Curtis Samford, Alcoa's leader for Oil and Gas. "We believe this makes Alcoa a unique, competitive and immediate player in this market," Samford said.
Alcoa's current product portfolio includes riser components and drill pipe. Several new technologies are under development including ultra-light choke and kill line retrofits, landing strings, completion risers, pressure vessels, and other tubular products. Alcoa is also utilizing its vast global forging infrastructure and engineering design expertise to develop unique products in a variety of materials including aluminum, steel, stainless steel, titanium, and various nickel based super alloys.
From the website, customers can learn about Alcoa's products and their specifications; manufacturing and product design capabilities; get an overview of the company's technological expertise; and learn about products under developments in this important market segment for the company.
Alcoa recently opened an office in Houston to support this market.
