REC Solar Helps Harvest Market Use the Sun to Power Its Business
Posted on: Wednesday, 24 October 2007, 12:00 CDT
Harvest Market is proud to announce the completion of its new 25.5 kilowatt (kW) solar electric system which was designed and installed by REC Solar, one of the nation's leading providers of residential and commercial solar electric systems. Harvest Market has set the standard for years in the grocery business in Mendocino County and has once again raised the bar by using solar electricity to power their business.
Tom Honer, Owner of Harvest Market, explains: "Being the largest independent retailer on Mendocino's North Coast, we felt the need to set an example of the importance of sustainable practices. Many of our customers shop at Harvest Market for the wide array of organic, fair trade, and sustainable products that we carry and these customers place a high priority on a sustainable future. We are proud of being the first to install a system of this size on the Mendocino Coast."
Harvest Market's solar electric system is comprised of one hundred and fifty-two (152) Sharp 167-watt panels and one (1) Xantrex PV30-208 inverter. The solar electric system is projected to produce over 31,000 kW hours annually and will save the company thousands of dollars in electricity costs.
According to REC Solar's Ryan Park, "Grocery stores use a significant amount of energy and a solar electric system will reduce their exposure to rising electricity prices. Customers also appreciate their local market contributing to a more sustainable world through renewable energy."
