Floods claim 8 lives in central Vietnam
HANOI, Oct. 29 (Xinhua) — Flooding in Vietnam’s central region has killed eight local people in Vietnam’s central region since last weekend.
Five of the victims came from Binh Dinh province, three from Khanh Hoa province, local newspaper Vietnam Agriculture reported Monday.
The floods also submerged many houses and hectares of subsidiary crops, and isolated some areas.
Natural disasters, including typhoons and hails, killed 339 people, left 274 people missing, and injured 2,065 others in Vietnam in 2006. The estimated losses totaled 18.6 trillion Vietnamese dong (nearly 1.2 billion U.S. dollars) in the year.
