VeraSun Energy Increases Capacity to 560MMGY With Startup of Albion, Nebraska Facility
Posted on: Tuesday, 30 October 2007, 09:00 CDT
BROOKINGS, S.D., Oct. 30 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- VeraSun Energy Corporation , one of the nation's largest ethanol producers, today announced the startup of its fifth production facility located near Albion, Neb. Expected to produce approximately 110 million-gallons-per-year (MMGY), the Albion facility is one of three biorefineries VeraSun purchased from ASAlliances Biofuels, LLC in August.
"We are pleased to be announcing the startup of our Albion facility," said Don Endres, VeraSun Chairman and CEO. "This startup is significant because it puts VeraSun at more than 500 million gallons per year of annual capacity and is an indication that our company and the industry are continuing to grow. As we bring new facilities online, the ethanol being produced is finding its way into the marketplace and continues to be blended as a value-added, high-octane component to our nation's fuel supply."
The Albion biorefinery is the latest addition to VeraSun's large-scale fleet of biorefineries. Along with sister facilities in Aurora, S.D., Fort Dodge and Charles City, Iowa, and Linden, Ind., the Albion facility is the third VeraSun plant to come on-line in 2007, bringing the company's total operating capacity to approximately 560MMGY. Charles City began operations in April of this year followed by the Linden facility in late July. VeraSun also has three additional production facilities under construction in Hartley, Iowa; Welcome, Minn., and Bloomingburg, Ohio, and one under development in Reynolds, Ind.
The plant will annually process approximately 39 million bushels of corn and produce about 350,000 tons of distillers grains for livestock feed. VeraSun will also hold a ribbon cutting ceremony and open house for the plant and Albion community in the spring of 2008.
"We have been very impressed with the Albion community and the interest in VeraSun resulting from the recent acquisition," Endres said. "The community and its leadership have been supportive of the plant and recognize the economic impact it will provide, in addition to the environmental benefits created from using ethanol. We are looking forward to a long-term, mutually-beneficial relationship with the community of Albion."
"This is an exciting time for Albion and the surrounding communities of Boone County," said Shirley Petsche, the recently retired Boone County Economic Development Director. "There is a tremendous economic impact being generated in the region that will benefit multiple industries and local corn farmers, in addition to providing valuable co-products for area livestock producers. We are very pleased that VeraSun Energy decided to invest in our community, and together we will work hard to uphold the company's position as a leader in the renewable fuels industry."
