Vietnam Airlines performs better in 9 months

HANOI, Oct. 31 (Xinhua) — Vietnam Airlines, the country’s national flag carrier, conducted 47,297 flights, transporting over5.8 million passengers and 82,405 tons of goods in the first nine months of this year, up 12.7 percent in passenger number and 5.6 percent in cargo volume against the same period last year.

The carrier reached seat occupancy of 75.2 percent, and revenues of 14,480 billion Vietnamese dong (905 million U.S. dollars), including pre-tax profits of 301 billion Vietnamese dong(18.8 million dollars) between January and September, local newspaper Investment reported Wednesday.

The carrier opened a route linking three cities of Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia on Oct. 28, and resumed flights from Hanoi capital to Chinese Guangzhou city on Oct. 29. Every week, there are five flights linking Hanoi with Laos’ Luang Prabang and Cambodia’s Siem Reap, and three flights from Hanoi to Guangzhou.
